The Mommy Poll

Possibly triggy...

I've been thinking a lot lately about how long of a maternity leave I will take and just how much I really want/have to work after having a baby. Yes, I am being very optimistic that my FET is going to work! I was curious how you all felt about these things... and for a lack of anything else to blog about I thought I'd poke and pry into everyones personal business! :)

1. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby?

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy?

3. For those SAHM and part timers... how do you do it? How do you afford it?

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other?

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it?

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying?

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done?

3. If you are TTC how long will you continue? Do you have a set time, a set amount of $ you will spend? How do you know when enough is enough?

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1?

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC?

My answers are in my comments.

1. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby? Anywere from 6-8 weeks. Will depend on how the finances are at the time.

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy? I'm currently working full time but would love to go down to part time after having a baby. Only problem is Jake is self employeed and I'm the insurance carrier for the family..

3. For those SAHM and part timers... how do you do it? How do you afford it? N/A

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other? I belive day care. Reason being that I dont know any good babysitters and I know of a good day care that my bro's friends family runs and I know they will take good care of my kids.

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it? I plan to breast feed and I go home for lunch everyday so I will pump then.

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying? Currently on C20 and still trying.

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done? I have had 5 clomid cycles (I think) 5 IUI's, and one IVF cycle.

3. If you are TTC how long will you continue? Do you have a set time, a set amount of $ you will spend? How do you know when enough is enough? My plan right now is to do this FET and one more (we have 2 groups of 4 embies on ice) then I think we will be done. Reason being that I can't justify spending the $ for nothing. In my eyes if a IVF cycle & 2 FET doesnt work it never will. We will then start saving for adoption.

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1? Since I was spotting for 2+ years prior to TTC I had a pretty good idea that something was wrong... too bad I couldnt get a GYNO to listen to me. Stupid bitch.

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC? I had stage 3 endo, and chronic annovulation. Jake has a low count and vericocele. We are now being thrown into the "unexplained" catagory. Luck us.

1. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby? I'm hoping to take 10-12 weeks, but we'll have to see how things work out.

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy? Full time, and will once we have a baby - I'm the main bread-winner. We have talked about DH going part-time.

3. For those SAHM and part timers... how do you do it? How do you afford it?n/a

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other? My mom will be our baby-sitter. She doesn't work anymore due to some health problems, but is still healthy enough to babysit

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it? I plan to be, and I'll have to pump at work since I work an hour away.

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying? It'll be two years in May. I think I've only O'd 5 times during that time, though.

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done? Three cycles of Clomid, two IUIs and we're starting our first IVF.

3. If you are TTC how long will you continue? Do you have a set time, a set amount of $ you will spend? How do you know when enough is enough? I'm not sure how many cycles we'll actually do, but since we signed up for shared risk, we can do up to six fresh and any associated FETs.

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1? I was pretty sure I would have problems - irregular cycles since my period started, family history of women having trouble getting pregnant, and my mom had a hysterectomy when she was 30.

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC? PCOS and endo

1. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby?
-- 12 weeks.

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy?
-- Full time. (I don't have the personality to be a stay at home mom. I need my independence)

3. For those SAHM and part timers... how do you do it? How do you afford it?
-- n/a

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other?
-- day care center. I do NOT like in home daycares or baby sitters. I do NOT like the fact there is only ONE person taking care of my child plus however many more she has. Hell, even I need a break from my kids and need to walk away - how will just one person survive? No way. I don't like it at all.

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it?
-- I pump in a conference room 3-4 times a day. (you need to pump more than once a day or you'll lose your supply)

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying?
18 cycles for #1, 1 cycle for #2, 19 cycles for #3.

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done?
--FET worked. Did medicated cycles, IUIs, IVF and FET.

3. If you are TTC how long will you continue? Do you have a set time, a set amount of $ you will spend? How do you know when enough is enough?
-- I was going to stop at age 36. I think "enough is enough" is something only you know about yourself.

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1?
-- I had no idea.

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC?
-- Unexplained for #1. Scar tissue and LUF for #3.

Good poll Jayme!

1. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby? I will take as long as I possibly can!

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy? I currently work FT.

3. For those SAHM and part timers... how do you do it? How do you afford it? N/A- but many of them have told me that priorities change & budgeting is vital. I hope to cut to PT when I'm a mom, so I'll let you know then!

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other? I have worked in a couple of daycares & was not impressed with what went on. I will avoid putting my kids in one if at all possible. I will pay either family, or someone in the congregation.

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it? N/A

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying? I lost track of Cs, but 3yrs, 4 months.

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done? So far, patience & charting. I was in denial for a long time.

3. If you are TTC how long will you continue? Do you have a set time, a set amount of $ you will spend? How do you know when enough is enough? My time limit is contingent on ins. I will spend the time to diagnose, then up to a yr TTC. After that, we're going to adoption.

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1? I didn't expect "on the first try" or anything. But I figured, you stop taking bc, you get pg. I wasn't really surprised that it didn't work that way for me though, I've had issues w/my C since I first started getting them.

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC? I'm IR & have ovarian cysts, so prob PCOS.

1. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby?
I get a total of 13w.

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy?
Plan on still working ft but who knows now with twinkies. Double the daycare costs!

3. For those SAHM and part timers... how do you do it? How do you afford it?
We could make it work either way. Just have to save and get rid of some of the luxuries we have. Thanks to DH and his good job we would be ok.

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other?
Strugglin with this one. I honestly don't know at this point but I guess I need to get on it.

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it? N/A

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying?
18C's

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done?
We went straight to IVF w/ICSI cuz of MFIF. It definitely worked!

3. If you are TTC how long will you continue? Do you have a set time, a set amount of $ you will spend? How do you know when enough is enough?
I don't think I would have given up for a long time. Probably 10 yrs or so.

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1?
I thought maybe DH's age would be a problem but I thought it would happen naturally in a few months or so.

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC?
MFIF. But that improved even by the time of our IVF w/ICSI. They fertilized 3w/ICSI and 6 the regular way and all 9 eggs fertilized. So who knows what the problem is.

1. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby?
- I plan to take 12 weeks - I'm lucky in that my company pays 12 weeks of maternity leave. Still doesn't seem like enough though.

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy?
- Full time

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other?
- Daycare or nanny, whichever ends up being cheaper with twins (people keep telling us a nanny is cheaper - I don't see evidence of this yet!).

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it?
- I hope to breast feed & pump as much as possible, we'll see.

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying?
- Took about 20 months

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done?
- IVF worked for us

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1?
- I always had a feeling I would have problems. I don't know why, I had nothing medical to back this up, I just knew. Self fulfilling prophecy?

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC?
- unexplained IF

. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby? Well my company only allows for 6 weeks so if we aren't at a place where I can stay home (that's the basic goal) then I will have to make do with that :(

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy? I'm full time right now, but HOPING to get to stay home

3. For those SAHM and part timers... how do you do it? How do you afford it? N/A

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other? If we need to, I will probably opt for day care. I grew up in day care and I seem to have turned out just fine. Plus sometimes I feel as though the SAHM just won't give as good of care. I mean, at least day cares are regulated... JMHO

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it? I plan on BF, but will have to pump at work in order to make it work.

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying? Technically we tried for 4 mos in 2004, 4 mos in 2005, 4 mos in 2006 and then 18 mos in 2007-09

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done? I only did Clomid (3 cycles)

3. If you are TTC how long will you continue? Do you have a set time, a set amount of $ you will spend? How do you know when enough is enough? Our plan was to try the clomid, then trigger for a couple cycles, then hold off until we could "afford" to do more treatments (aka until we were out of debt)

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1? I had a feeling for some reason. It took my mom a long time to conceive all of us kids, so it kind of went without saying it would probably take some time.

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC? I just didn't O on my own most cycles. In the 18 mos that we continuously TTC, I only O'd maybe 5 times 1 of which was on Clomid.

1. How long of a maternity leave will you take once you have a baby or how long of a leave did you take when you had your baby?
~6 weeks paid if I have a normal birth, 8 weeks if I have a c-section

2. Do you work full time, part time or are you a stay at home mommy?
work full time and still will work

3. For those SAHM and part timers... how do you do it? How do you afford it?
n/a

4. Will/do you take your babies to day care or have a baby sitter? Why did you choose one over the other?
~I want a daycare, I don't like the idea of home daycares and weird people coming in and out of the house that I don't know

5. If you are a breast feeder do you pump at work? Do you go home for lunch and do it?
I'm going to pump at work when I go back, I don't think they'll have an issue with it

Some TTC questions....

1. How long did it take you to get pregnant? Or if you aren't pregnant how long have you been trying?
took 18 months, 22 cycles

2. What treatments worked for you? Or what treatments have you done?
~my lap seemed to do it for us

3. If you are TTC how long will you continue? Do you have a set time, a set amount of $ you will spend? How do you know when enough is enough?
n/a

4. Before TTC did you know you would have problems or did you think you'd be one of the luck ones that would get KU on C1?
~I had a small idea that we'd have issues but I thought it would be because Josh smokes

5. Do you have any known reasons why you are/did having problems TTC?
~I guess it was my endo

1. I had C-sections, so 8 weeks all 3 times.
2. part-time weekends, and sahm during the week. only thing that worked for us...its been extremely hard though.
3. we don't really. Its always a juggling game.
4.n/a...but my dad did watch my first for a few months until I changed my work schedule.
5.pumped at the sames times I'd be feeding my baby throughout the shift. Pumping only once a day will kill your supply fast!

3. Yeah right, SAHM, afford that? Yeah, when pigs fly...

1. I took 10 weeks with Maddi. When ever I get KU'd again, I am going to take at least 12 weeks if I go back at all.

2. I worked full time until just this past Aug. I still work 35 hours per week.

3. I love working semi- part time. My husband carries the insurance and makes a pretty good income so we manage. We are still in our "starter" home and both drive cars that are almost paid for; but we do go on vacation and eat out and go out with friends.

4. Maddi started in a daycare center and it was wonderful except for the fact that she was sick all of the time. Then there were some problems with the teachers when she went to the 2 yr old room. I switched her to a small home daycare about 2 months ago and so far so good. She loves it!!!

5. I breastfed until I went back to work. Maddi never did latch on so I was pumping and bottle feeding. It was exhausting and my milk supply started to decrease. I hope I will get to breastfeed the next one for a lot longer.

TTC questions:
1. With Maddi I was not TTC- I just got pregnant. I am on C18 TTC #2. It is very frusterating.

2. I am on 1800 mg Met and have done 2 cycles of Clomid.

3. I am not sure how long we will keep trying. When I started TTC #2 I said that I would not have IVF since I feel blessed to have 1 daughter, but now as time goes by I am keeping my options open. We really will have to save some money before we can try IVF.

4. I had horrible periods through my teen years. When I was 20 I had laproscopy and the discovered endo and removed it. I thought it could give me problems, but after getting KU'd with Maddi so easily I would never have imagined it would take this long to get pregnant again.

5. Besides the prior endo there is really nothing. The RE suspects some degree of PCOS but I do not have the pearl like cysts all though I do get recurrent ovarian cysts.

I'm just gonna answer one of your questions. The one about how a SAHM can afford it. I plan on being a SAHM, and the only way I see any family surviving financially is if they still have 2 incomes. So, I'm looking into medical transcriptionist to do from home. My brother in law works his teaching job, but also aggressively does ebay. Like I said, I don't know of any family that is able to do it soley on 1 income these days, and actually make the ends meet.

TTC Questions:
Took me 14 months.
Treatment: The lap for endo, and the removal of it. And metformin.
I didn't think I would have problems.
Endo, and PCOS
